Therapy, also known as counselling or psychotherapy, is a professional and confidential space where you can talk with a trained mental health practitioner about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Through regular sessions, therapy can help you understand yourself more deeply, develop healthier coping strategies, and work towards positive change.

Therapy can address a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, grief, self-esteem issues, life changes, and personal development goals.

Therapy sessions typically last 50-minutes, commonly referred to as the “therapy hour.” This length of time allows for a focused and meaningful conversation, while also giving the therapist a few minutes before and after the session to prepare, reflect, and document any notes to ensure the highest quality of care for each client.

Consider the type of challenges you’re facing and what you hope to achieve. Counselling is often suited to immediate concerns, while psychotherapy may address deeper or long-standing issues. If unsure, we can guide you.

Coaching focuses on personal and professional growth, goal-setting, and actionable strategies, while therapy addresses emotional and mental health concerns.

Seek a qualified practitioner whose approach aligns with your needs and preferences. Initial sessions provide an opportunity to assess whether you feel comfortable and supported. Building a sense of ease and trust with your therapist is essential, and if the match doesn’t feel right, we’re here to assist you in finding someone better suited to you.

In the first session, we’ll discuss your concerns, goals, and how therapy works. It’s a chance to ask questions and decide if you feel comfortable continuing

Reflect on what you’d like to discuss or achieve. Bringing notes or examples of your challenges can be helpful but isn’t necessary.

Therapy is for anyone who wants support, regardless of the severity of their issue. If it’s impacting you, it’s worth addressing.

Not at all. Therapists are skilled at creating a supportive environment where you can explore issues at your own pace.

Everything you share during your sessions is completely confidential and will not be disclosed to anyone, including your GP, without your explicit permission. The only exceptions are in rare situations involving significant risk or legal requirements, which we will discuss with you during your initial session. In some cases, it may be beneficial to inform your GP that you are working with us, but we will only do so with your consent. Otherwise, all information remains private and will not be added to your medical records.

We do not work directly with medical insurers. This is because insurance providers often place limitations on psychological treatment that can be restrictive or clinically inappropriate. If you wish to use your insurance to fund sessions, we suggest paying for them directly and then seeking reimbursement from your insurer. You may wish to confirm with your provider whether this arrangement is eligible for reimbursement before starting therapy. This approach helps ensure your therapeutic work remains consistent and unaffected by external constraints.

No, you’re under no obligation to commit to a set number of sessions at the outset, and you’re free to end therapy at any time. However, to get the most out of the process, we encourage clients to commit to an initial block of six sessions. This gives you time to settle into therapy, build a trusting relationship with your therapist, and begin working meaningfully towards your goals. Once you decide to proceed, you and your therapist will usually agree on a collaborative framework or ‘contract’. This isn’t legally binding but helps to clarify your aims for therapy and outlines how you’ll work together to achieve them.
